I particularly enjoy teaching within immersive and place-based learning environments. Some of my teaching-centered projects, aside from <a href=\"https:\/\/katherineadelsberger.com\/?page_id=28\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"28\">student research<\/a>, are highlighted below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-3ab5654bb55bb522ca9109007b2c774b wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#4f3276;font-style:normal;font-weight:400\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/stories\/e6d5d7fcd207411fbe2b72e8eff49790\">Indigenous Representation and Cultural Identity in Illinois<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This summer immersion program funded by an NEH grant to Knox College investigated Indigenous representation at museums and archaeological sites in Illinois within the context of settler colonialism and historic removal of Indigenous populations. The students produced the Story Map below: <\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/stories\/e6d5d7fcd207411fbe2b72e8eff49790?header&amp;cover=false\" width=\"100%\" height=\"500px\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-b0dbc0ba676b52e1ed973aad71f99ac2 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#4f3276\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Environmental Geology<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of my favorite introductory courses to teach, this class covers the basics of physical geology with a focus on natural disasters and human relationships with geologic timeframes. Students live and take courses together, learning about the land they inhabit and what it takes to develop a community that works together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The &#8220;Oakies&#8221;, as the students are known, documented their experience in Story Maps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/stories\/17db7536d4e3465d9ab7023d98fec705\">2025<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/stories\/bbdd7dfba6134cb78b95e91b9268d260\">2022<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/stories\/bbdd7dfba6134cb78b95e91b9268d260\" width=\"100%\" height=\"500px\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"geolocation\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-e7884afc3e1f678d2551b33cd7a62e9a wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#4f3276\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Introduction to Geographic Information Systems<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This course introduces students to the basics of map-making and GIS, specifically ESRI&#8217;s ArcGIS Pro software.
